City Issues Cleanup Order to Contractors

Cape Coral, Fla., contractors could face job shutdowns.

Notices have been issued to contractors working on building sites in Cape Coral, Fla., informing them that they could face individual job shutdowns if their sites are not clean, according to a report in the News-Press (Cape Coral, Fla.).

Starting next week, city inspectors will “red tag” a project if the site isn’t clean, according to the report. If the contractor doesn’t bring the site up to standards then, the work will be shut down.

The action is in response to rising complaints from residents about construction and demolition debris littering the city.

According to the report, C&D debris makes up about 30 percent (by weight) of the solid waste handled by Lee County, where Cape Coral is located. About 25 to 30 percent of that C&D debris is recycled by the county.
