A group of Athens, Maine, residents that opposes a Massachusetts company’s plan to burn construction and demolition debris at a plant in town is looking to a governor-appointed citizens board to intervene, according to a report in the Morning Sentinel (Augusta, Maine).
Members of CAPIT, Citizens Against Pollution in Town, have asked that the Board of Environmental Protection be awarded intervener status with the state Department of Environmental Protection, according to the report.
The group made the request during an agency hearing on Nov. 17 in Augusta.
CAPIT has raised opposition to GenPower LLC’s application to the state for the right to burn construction and demolition debris at a biomass plant it is looking to build in Athens.
