Cherry Demolition Wins Industry Award

Houston-based company recognized for safety record, workmanship quality.

Cherry Demolition, Houston, has received the 2008 Excellence in Construction award for its work and safety record during a six-month project dismantling sections of BP Amoco’s chemical plant in Pasadena, Texas. The award, a top industry honor, was presented to Cherry by the Associated Builders and Contractors of Greater Houston (ABC).

Called “Project Pathway,” the demolition assignment consisted of removing more than 2,000 tons of process equipment, piping, structural steel, instrumentation, insulation, electrical equipment and some foundation. Cherry Demolition’s Industrial Division was selected by BP Amoco based on an outstanding record of safety and a history of competitively-priced bids.

“The successful outcome of our demolition project in Pasadena was made possible by Cherry’s conscientious teamwork, which produced a great product in a safe and timely fashion with a zero OSHA recordable,” says Mark Dinello, BP’s former projected general manager for Project Pathway.

The 2008 Excellence in Construction awards competition recognized 39 projects from general contractors, specialty contractors and suppliers judged to be among the finest in the industry based on the merits of safety requirements, member involvement and endorsements from owners and design firms.
