The Construction Financial Management Association (CFMA) has formed the Construction Industry Alliance for Suicide Prevention in order to promote mental health awareness and prevent suicides among construction workers, a report by Safety and Health magazine says.
The alliance began after a report released by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in July stated that construction and extraction workers had a suicide rate of 53.3 per 100,000 employees in 2012, second to farming, fishing and forestry workers, whose rate was 84.5 per 100,000 employees, the report says.
According to the report, several organizations are involved in the alliance, including the Associated Builders and Contractors, Associated General Contractors of America, and the National Association of Women in Construction.
In order to spread the message, the alliance encourages the use of the hashtag #SuicidePreventionCFMA on social media.
