CDRA funds two research projects

The board of directors of the Construction and Demolition Recycling Association (CDRA), Milwaukee, recently approved funding for two projects. One is a continuation of C&D fines research, and the other is an update of the state construction and demolition debris (C&D) regulatory profiles. The work will be headed by Timothy Townsend at the University of Florida in Gainesville, Florida.

The C&D fines research continues the work Townsend has done so far, and will cover:

• the C&D fines document; 
• the asphalt document;
• additional C&D fines analysis;
• fines processing experiments; and
• C&D fines case studies.  

A resource for CDRA members has been the listing of how each state regulates C&D waste. For this survey of state regulators, the CDRA is asking recyclers to create a survey that focus on the states regulation of C&D, including facility permitting and facility requirements, recycling and diversion planning requirements, recycling and diversion goals, disposal bans, beneficial reuses, C&D state reporting, waste franchises in the state and types of materials considered recycled, landfilled and diverted. The primary regulatory interest includes:

• overall C&D regulation, C&D recycling regulations, C&D landfill regulations, C&D diversion regulations, C&D fines regulations, C&D biomass regulations;
• execute a survey to the C&D regulating agencies within each state;
• capture the results of each survey through an online platform;
• publish the results of the survey online on the CDRA website;
• input for survey questions will be retrieved from CDRA and incorporated into the surveys before individuals are asked to take part; and
• a final technical report will summarize the survey's mechanisms, methods and results.
