Casella launches Web-based monitoring system

Casella, a U.K.-based company which specializes in reducing occupational health and environmental impact risks through effective monitoring solutions globally, has introduced the Boundary Guardian, a comprehensive Web-based remote monitoring system for dust and noise exposures suitable for use at construction and demolition recycling sites.

The Boundary Guardian monitors for noise, dust and vibration levels around a job site. The monitoring system also alerts companies to hazardous levels before they are the subject of complaints, according to the company. Casella says companies must comply with planning permission on dust and noise emissions as well as be socially responsible for their businesses and protect neighbors in surrounding communities.

The company says with heavy fines per noise violation a possibility, preventing noise and dust from exceeding agreed emissions levels directly affects the profitability of a company. Therefore, implementing a reliable and effective noise and dust monitoring program is essential to local authority and neighborhood relations as well as profitability, Casella says.

Casella says its Boundary Guardian enables site operators to conduct Web-based monitoring of noise and dust emissions to ensure compliance with regulatory limits. This prevents any adverse effects to people and communities within the local area. The monitoring system sends out text message and email alerts when noise or dust levels are approaching “trigger” levels, enabling site operators to manage site activity to ensure noise and dust impact to those in the area is minimized at all times, Casella explains. In addition, the Boundary Guardian “pushes” data automatically to a dedicated website that uses a private login and is accessible in real-time, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year, the company says. In the event that a report is required for compliance reasons, one can be readily produced.

Once installed, the Boundary Guardian ensures compliance with regulatory limits, Casella say. Accomplished via an installation service, the unit automatically starts up and begins receiving data as soon as it is fixed to a wall and supplied with power.

Neal Hill, product manager at Casella Solutions, says, “At Casella Solutions we are dedicated to providing data through our systems that leads to positive outcomes and changes for the global workforce. The Boundary Guardian has provided that solution as it encompasses noise, dust and vibration monitoring, ultimately helping to monitor high-risk occupational sectors, including the construction and demolition recycling industry, enhancing the long-term health and quality of life, not only for a vast workforce, but also improving a company’s social responsibility for the area surrounding its work site.”

In other Casella news, the company also has introduced its new Casella Apex2, which the company says embraces the added capabilities of remote Bluetooth connectivity. This allows trained professionals to monitor the performance of the dust sampling pump on multiple employees without preventing them from doing their job.
