The Washington-based National Demolition Association (NDA) is reminding its members that the application deadline for 2026 Michael J. Casbon Safety Awards is Jan. 15.

The awards are named in honor of demolition industry executive Mike Casbon, who championed safety procedures and programs in his tenure as an NDA volunteer and with companies including the ERM International Group. Casbon died in 2019 at the age of 53.

NDA established the awards later that year with the aim of recognizing companies that go above and beyond to protect their teams and uphold the highest safety standards in the industry.

“His legacy lives on through this award, which evaluates applicants based on lagging indicators, companywide safety commitment safety culture and narrative responses," NDA says of Casbon.

Award winners will be honored at the NDA Demolition Phoenix event Feb. 4-7.

NDA says companies should apply in part to demonstrate their commitment to protecting workers and maintaining the highest safety standards and to build trust and credibility with clients.

The application is detailed and requires safety data such as lagging indicators, Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA) logs and training program details.

Applications will be considered for companies in three different size categories: those whose projects involve fewer than 100,000 labor hours per year; those in the 100,001-350,000 range; and large firms with more than 350,000 labor hours per year.

More information on the application process can be found on the NDA website.
