The regional municipality of Peel, located in Ontario, Canada, has purchased its second Vecoplan dual shaft shredder.
A VNZ 250 XL Hurricane is slated for installation at the municipality’s Integrated Waste Management Facility in early June, according to a press release from Vecoplan LLC, High Point, N.C.
The Hurricane will be used for size reduction of yard debris and household organics prior to being composted as part of the region’s overall effort to divert material from landfills.
Peel purchased a VNZ 210 dual shaft reshredder from Vecoplan in the summer of 2005, and it has been in operation at the Caledon Landfill site since December.
The VNZ 210 replaced two existing machines, a slow speed shear shredder without particle size regulation and a high speed single rotor shredder with size regulation.
The VNZ 210 is a low-speed dual rotor shredder with two large, parallel rotor cylinders embedded with indexible cutting inserts, or teeth, which shred against a fixed bedknife in the center. The VNZ 210 also uses application-specific screens that regulate the particle size. Currently, the Caledon composting facility is processing throughputs of 30 to 40 tons per hour and achieving particle sizes of 4-inch minus.
“Using our VNZ 210 as a benchmark, we are anticipating many years of service to the region, once the new VNZ 250 XL Hurricane is installed and fully operational,” says Larry Conrad, P. Eng. Manager of waste operations.
Vecoplan is a manufacturer of industrial shredding and size reduction equipment.
