Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency seeks comments on C&D landfill expansion

The Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency (CEAA), Ottawa, Ontario, must decide whether a federal environmental assessment is required for the proposed Arlington Asbestos Waste Disposal Facility expansion project, located in Arlington West, Annapolis County, Nova Scotia.

According to the CEAA website, Arlington Heights C&D Ltd. in Nova Scotia is proposing the expansion of its asbestos disposal facility. The expansion would increase its capacity by 112 percent. The proposal includes implementing drainage ditches, sediment ponds, a berm block for noise and dust mitigation and waste storage cells.

To help inform this decision, CEAA is seeking comments from the public and Indigenous groups on the project and its potential effects on the environment. All comments received will be considered public.

As a next step, CEAA will post a decision on its website stating whether an environmental assessment is required. If one is required, the public will have three more opportunities to comment on the environmental assessment of the project.
