Hot load: Driver forced to dump flaming C&D waste during transit

A truck driver hauling construction waste on Highway 417 in Ottawa, Canada, was forced to dump his rig’s contents sooner than planned when he discovered the C&D material burning in the back of the truck during transit on Sept. 8, the Ottawa Citizen reports.

The driver pulled over when he saw the contents aflame and dumped the material before it could engulf the truck. The waste consisted of lumber, insulation and other material.

Ottawa firefighters arrived at the scene to extinguish the fire, and heavy equipment was brought in to spread out the debris to ensure the flames were fully out before crews removed the debris from the road.
