California Gravel Miner Approved to Shift to Recycling

The San Luis Obispo County (California) Planning Commission has approved a proposal for a local gravel mining operation to shift to recycling asphalt and other construction material, according to a report in the Tribune (San Luis Obispo, Calif.)

Commissioners voted 3-1 to give Paul Viborg a permit for his Paso Robles, Calif.-construction recycling operation.

The site was originally a sand and gravel mine. However, the concrete and asphalt recycling operation has grown in recent years. Now that recycling makes up more than half of Viborg’s business, he needed to apply for new permits for recycling, according to the report.

His operation includes on-site sorting and stockpiling of sand, gravel, concrete and asphalt. He has a portable crusher and truck scales as well.
