California City Considered for CIWMB Rubberized Paving Grant

The city of Thousand Oaks, Calif., has been recommended to receive $113,250 from the California Integrated Waste Management Board (CIWMB) for the use of recycled tires in roadway paving projects, according to a report in the Thousand Oaks Acorn (Thousand Oaks, Calif.).

Over the past few years, the state of California has used nearly 10 million recycled tires in rubberized asphalt concrete (RAC) paving projects, according to the report.

Applying a 2-inch think layer of RAC can save as much as $20,000 per lane mile compared to a 4-inch layer of conventional asphalt, according to the report.
