The Apple Valley (Calif.) Town Council has approved an ordinance mandating 50 percent of debris coming from construction and demolition sites must be recycled, according to a report in the Daily Press (Victorville, Calif.).
The town is following the lead of San Diego, which approved a C&D recycling ordinance in September.
Like San Diego, officials in Apple Valley hope that instituting a mandatory C&D recycling program will bolster the town’s recycling rates to meet the state-mandated 50 percent.
Apple Valley’s current diversion rate is approximately 35 percent, Diana McKeen, community services manager, tells the Daily Press.
