Cable Maker Offers Recycling Program

Electrical cable maker Hendrix offers what it calls a “cradle-to-cradle” recycling program.

Hendrix Wire & Cable, a Milford, N.H.-based maker of overhead and underground power distribution products, has announced its new “cradle-to-cradle” recycling program for the return and recycling of its HPI polyethylene insulator products made using recyclable high-density polyethylene (HDPE) plastic, the same plastic used in household products such as milk or juice cartons coded with a #2 recycling symbol.

Hendrix says it has developed polyethylene insulators “that not only address the growing concern to minimize our environmental impact, but also as a means of minimizing costs to customers as an incentive to do so.”

Unlike traditional porcelain insulators, Hendrix’s line of HPI Insulators made from HDPE can be fully recycled at the end of the product life cycle, says the company. As part of Hendrix’s new cradle-to-cradle program, customers are encouraged to send used HPI products to a local recycler or to ship them back to Hendrix for recycling at no additional cost.

Those wishing to take advantage of the cradle-to-cradle recycling program can ship any used HPI insulator products to:

Hendrix says its HPI polyethylene insulators are designed for both bare wire and covered conductors and can be used instead of porcelain insulators.
