Residents near the Warren Hills C&D landfill in Warren, Ohio, have filed a class action lawsuit alleging that the facility and its operators allowed noxious odors, pollution, noise, dust, debris and air contaminants to “invade” their neighborhood, residences, and yards. The main complaint the residents have is a “rotten egg” smell caused by hydrogen sulfide gas from gypsum wallboard at the facility.
No more results found. The C&D landfill operators also run Warren Recycling and a municipal solid waste transfer station in the same area.
According to the lawsuit, in 2001 a Warren City Health District inspector concluded that Warren Recycling’s operation of the landfill had created a “nuisance” and was a “ health hazard.”
In November 2003 the Agency of Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (ATSDR) issued a report on the results from its Warren Township hydrogen sulfide air sampling. According to the lawsuit, “the ASTDR concluded that an ‘urgent public health hazard’ existed in Warren Township.” The agency based its conclusions on health risks associated with high levels of human exposure to hydrogen sulfide gas.
