C&D Landfill Opens in Vermont

A Bennington, Vt.,-based contractor has opened a new landfill that will accept construction and demolition debris in Woodford, Vt., according to a report in the Bennington Banner (Bennington, Vt.).

Burgess Bros. Inc. is a general contractor that offers a crane service and sells crushed stone and gravel. The company was awarded the permit to open the landfill after several years of the application process.

The company was granted a two-year permit from the state to open the facility, which will be located next to a landfill that has been closed and capped, according to the report.

The new 4.5 acre landfill will accept C&D material, including wood, plaster, sheetrock, rolled asphalt roofing, roofing shingles, insulation, flooring, brick, masonry and mortar, glass, pavement, stone, furniture and mattresses. The facility can accept no more than 30,000 cubic yards of debris per year and no more than 500 cubic yards per day.
