C&D Landfill Gets OK in North Carolina

After months of delay, county commissioners approve project.

County commissioners of Forsyth County, N.C., have approved plans for a construction and demolition debris landfill to be built in the county after months of delay and protests from residents, according to a report in the Journal (Winston-Salem, N.C.).

Some 316 acres of rural land in the county will be rezoned to be converted into a C&D landfill following a 4-3 vote.

A final decision on the project was delayed twice. The commissioners delayed the decision in February to allow time to learn more about the proposal. It was delayed again in May because a voting member would be unable to be present for a final vote.
