Construction and demolition materials are among the targets for an information upgrade for the waste and by-products guidelines currently on the Recycled Materials Resource Center (RMRC) Web site. The popular Web site is used by many in the transportation industry as an information source on the use of recycled materials in the highway environment.
RMRC is affiliated with the University of New Hampshire and will undertake this work in cooperation with the University of Wisconsin. The addition of current literature, case studies and data with a particular focus on the environmental performance will be done on two other materials besides C&D, coal combustion residues and foundry sand. According to a memo sent out by Dr. Jenna Jambeck of RMRC who will be heading the project, “In the spirit of increasing recycling of these materials, this project will also entail the development of a more user friendly and comprehensive Web-based version of the guidelines. It is envisioned that the Web site would be flexible and applicable to various interested parties…We envision the users being a wide variety of industry, consultant, and state and federal agencies (including regulators.)”
The current Web site can be viewed at www.rmrc.unh.edu/partners/userguide/begin.htm. Roll out of the upgraded site is expected to be in early 2007. The Construction Materials Recycling Association (CMRA) has provided input on how to improve the site, and will monitor its progress.
