C&D Disposal Regulations Tabled in Maine

LD 141 carried over because of sponsor’s absence.

A bill that would ban the disposal of construction and demolition debris in a landfill or in an incineration facility was tabled because its sponsor was absent from a committee workshop, according to a report in the Bangor News Daily (Bangor, Maine).

According to the report, the state Legislature’s Natural Resources Committee held a workshop to discuss the proposed bill LD 141, which was then tabled because its sponsor, state Sen. John Martin (D-Eagle Lake) was absent.

The bill is a response to a proposed Massachusetts law that bans burying and burning of C&D debris in Massachusetts, even if it originates in the state.

According to the report, the bill will be examined again next week after the Board of Environmental Protection meets.
