Montreal-based American Iron & Metal (AIM) intends to begin demolition work on a Maine paper mill in December 2015, according to a report from WCHS TV in Portland, Maine.
The television station says the town of Bucksport, Maine, has issued the required demolition permit to take down the former Verso Corp. mill and that AIM has indicated it will begin work in December.
Verso continues to operate eight printing and writing paper plants in the United States, with two in Michigan, two in Wisconsin and one each in Kentucky, Maine, Maryland and Minnesota. It closed the mill in Bucksport permanently in December 2014.
AIM, which also owns the land upon which the Bucksport mill sits, is working with the city of Bucksport and its mayor David Keene on redevelopment plans for the site, according to WCHS.
