Bobcat Co. Announces Expansion

Equipment manufacturer plans $9.5 million manufacturing support center (MSC) at Bismarck, N.D. plant.

Bobcat Co., West Fargo, N.D., has announced its plans for a $9.5 million expansion project at its Bismarck, N.D., factory, according to a release from the company.

The expansion will take the form of a new manufacturing support center (MSC) at the Bismarck location. The 100,000-square-foot facility should open up space at the current factory for additional fabrication and assembly.

The site of the MSC is in the Northern Plains Commerce Centre (NPCC), and it will be designated a foreign trade zone—allowing companies to import product components for finished goods without incurring duties.

“This new facility is a great example of continuous improvement of a process,” says Mike Ryan, Bobcat president and CEO. “This expansion enables us to do things better, in a shorter amount of time, while freeing up the space for more fabrication and assembly at the current Bismarck plant.”

The groundbreaking of the MSC is scheduled for late in the first quarter of 2005. It should be finished and fully operational sometime in the fourth quarter, according to company officials.

Bobcat Co. manufactures compact construction equipment and has two other locations in North Dakota—the company headquarters in West Fargo and a factory in Gwinner.
