Bismarck Supports Plan for Asphalt Plant

Commissioners’ split vote gives company go-ahead.

Last week, Bismarck (N.D.) city commissioners split a vote on a motion to deny the appeal of the Planning and Zoning Commission’s recommendation to approve a special-use permit for a permanent asphalt plant to be built in Bismarck, according to a report in the Bismarck Tribune (Bismarck, N.D.).

Because the vote was split and the commission could not come to a decision, the appeal was denied, and the former recommendation will stand, allowing B&B Paving to build the plant.

Opposition to the proposed site was expressed by several residential areas within a half-mile from the planned facility, according to local reports.

The Bismarck Tribune reports that B&B has now secured all necessary permits and plans to purchase a 17-acre parcel of land in east Bismarck, six of which will be used for the asphalt plant.
