The home of Al Kaline, Ty Cobb, and many other Detroit Tiger greats is nearing demolition as the Detroit Economic Group Corp. is publicizing an RFP for a company to provide selective dismantling and demolition of the facility.
The stadium was the home of the baseball Tigers from 1912 through 1999. It was replaced by a new baseball park, Comerica Field, in 2000.
The Economic Development Corp. for Detroit is seeking experienced and qualified demolition contractors to submit proposals for the operation. Deadline to submit a bid is Nov. 20, 2007.
The city hopes the demolition project to begin early next year.
