Six Companies Picked to Bid on Large Demo Project

A total of 70 firms responded to initial RFQ to decommission and demolish former Chrysler plant.

1743 Holdings LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of the University of Delaware, has chosen six firms to participate in the Request for Proposal (RFP) phase to undertake the decommissioning and eventual demolition of various buildings located on Chrysler’s former Newark Assembly Plant site.

The six general contractors were selected from more than 70 firms that responded to a Request for Pre-Qualification Submittal. The six firms selected to participate in the RFP process are: Brandenburg Industrial Service Company; CST Environmental, LP; Envirocon, Inc.; North American Dismantling Corp.; URS Corporation and WRSCompass.

Selection criteria included experience in projects of this size, personnel scheduled to work on this project, safety and health programs, insurability, credit and bonding information, references and commitment to using local vendors for services during this project.

All six general contractors selected to participate in the RFP process were present during the Delaware Opportunity Expo, which gave local contractors, consultants and vendors an opportunity to meet with each of them.

The scope of services required as part of this project includes, but is not limited to, decommissioning and cleaning of process equipment and associated structures, abatement of asbestos containing materials, demolition of site buildings and removal, recycling and disposal of all building materials.
