Safety and training will top the agenda of the Concrete Sawing and Drilling Association’s (CSDA) 2005 Annual Convention, scheduled for Feb. 16-19, 2005 in San Francisco, according to a release from the association.
Bruce Swanson, director of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) directorate of construction, U.S. Department of Labor, will make the opening day presentation.
Swanson will speak on “Managing Worker Safety in Construction: OSHA’s Perspective on What Constitutes an Effective Safety Program.”
“Every CSDA contractor member knows how critical it has become to work within the guidelines of OSHA,” says Patrick O’Brien, executive director of CSDA, St. Petersburg, Fla. O’Brien says Swanson’s address reflects the association’s commitment to working with the government to enhance safety in the industry.
Swanson will be followed by Karl Smith and Tom Pyle from the California Department of Transportation. They will make a presentation on slab replacement, joint repair and slurry disposal.
Additional presentations focused on concrete sawing and drilling include “Preventative Maintenance for Core Drilling,” “Applying Diamond Tool Cutting Theory to Real World Situations” and “Flat Saw Maintenance.”
Other topics will address wages and insurance claims management.
