Atlas Copco adds drum cutter line

DC Drum Cutter line with eight attachments is equipment manufacturer’s latest addition to range of construction tool offerings.

Atlas Copco , an equipment manufacturer headquartered in Stockholm, Sweden, has introduced a line of eight drum cutter attachments to its range of construction tools. The DC Drum Cutter line is available with service weights from 440 pounds to 6,395 pounds, and is suitable for carriers from 1 to 50 tons, the company says. Atlas Copco explains that its drum cutters can be used for a number of applications, including surface profiling, trenching, frozen soil, excavation and demolition. The drum cutters also can work underwater to a depth of 98 feet without additional installation, the company notes.

The cutter drum has an optimized pick pattern for higher productivity, and because of the resulting small grain sizes, cut rock or concrete can be used as backfill material without additional crushing required.

The DC Drum Cutter range features a high torque gear motor for increased productivity and motor durability, Atlas says. The company describes how sturdy spur gears provide ideal energy transmission with minimum service requirements, and the robust housing design with HARDOX wear protection increases equipment uptime. The drum cutters are able to rotate 360 degrees with a central fixing bolt for positioning.

Atlas says drum cutters are an economic solution when the application of conventional excavation methods and percussion systems make it difficult to achieve a desired result. Atlas Copco’s drum cutting technology allows accurate removal of material in tunnels, trenches and any other kind of rock or concrete surface. Low noise and vibration levels make the new range of drum cutters suitable for use on restricted job sites and in sensitive urban areas. DC Drum Cutters are a complementary product to Atlas Copco hydraulic breakers, the company points out.

Atlas Copco manufactures compressors, vacuum solutions and air treatment systems, construction and mining equipment, power tools and assembly systems. The company announced in February its decision to discontinue its Powercrusher business line.
