The Asphalt Institute (AI) has announced the dates of its Airport Paving Seminar, which will be Nov. 14-16, 2006, in Boston.
The goal of the workshop is to provide information for those designing, constructing and managing asphalt airport pavements. This will include a review of current specifications and advisory circulars and detailed descriptions of materials as well as pavement design, construction and preservation practices for airports.
This course is intended for airport managers and engineers, consultants, military civil engineering personnel, testing laboratory personnel, testing laboratory personnel, construction inspectors and others who have responsibility for airport pavement design, construction, maintenance and rehabilitation.
The course is being taught by the Asphalt Institute and Federal Aviation Administration at the Marriott Hotel in Burlington, Mass.

In other AI news, the association has named Vaughn Marker to its Roll of Honor for his contribution and commitment to the asphalt industry.
Marker began his professional career with the California Division of Highways in June 1942, but only worked a short time before serving in the U.S. Army Air Corps in World War II. During the war he served in Europe, North Africa and Italy from November 1942 to November 1945.
He returned to civilian life and graduated from the University of Nevada in 1947 with a Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineering. He returned to the California Division of Highways as an Asphalt Paving Specialist.
In 1955, Marker joined the AI as a district engineer in the Pacific Coast Division. He was promoted several times over the next few years before accepting a position as chief engineer at AI’s headquarters in 1974.
The award was presented to Marker at the AI’s 2006 Spring Meeting in Washington D.C.
