ASGCO markets overhead magnetic separator

Pennsylvania firm says its suspension magnet is suitable for several recycling applications.

Allentown, Pennsylvania-based ASGCO is describing its “Complete Conveyor Solutions” magnetic separator as an overhead magnet and powerful nonelectric material separator that is suspended over a conveyor or head pulley to remove ferrous metals.

The overhead magnet requires no external power source yet has the magnetic intensity to extract all ferrous contamination, including very fine particles, in dry or wet conditions, according to the firm.

The company says the ASGCO Magnetic Separator “is ideally suited for material recovery facility (MRF), mixed metal recycling, e-scrap, construction and demolition (C&D) materials, wood recycling, tire recycling, incinerator ash and plastics recycling applications.

The self-cleaning device is designed to attract metal that is automatically and continuously removed from the magnet face by a belt that travels around the body of the magnet. The ASGCO Magnetic Separator also may be placed at an incline and is designed to handle many different types of material at a wide range of bandwidths and thicknesses.

“Our core business is providing products that improve efficiency, safety and productivity, and this magnetic separator provides solutions to all of those concerns,” says Aaron Gibbs, third-generation president of ASGCO.  “There is no question that the addition of our magnetic separator will be a major improvement to the material handling operations of many industries.”

A stainless steel cleated belt moves contaminants from product flow into a collection bin or chute, and the separator’s continuous cleaning has been designed to minimize downtime for maintenance. Custom configurations are available to accommodate all belt sizes, with options for high temperatures and various belt materials, including armor clad belts, according to the firm.

The separator can be arranged to be installed inline or as a crossover magnet, depending on the specific installation needs.

ASGCO, founded in 1971 describes itself as a leading manufacturer, distributor and service provider of conveyor and screening equipment and accessories designed to improve the safety and performance of bulk material handling systems.
