Managers of the Baxter County (Arkansas) construction and demolition debris landfill have covered an exposed slope with grass seed and soil to correct cover violations and possible leaks found during a state inspection, according to a report in the Baxter Bulletin (Mountain Home, Ark.).
The March inspection of the Class 4 landfill, which accepts C&D debris, appliances and other bulky material, showed corrective action had been taken following a previous inspection, but that some areas of the landfill’s cover were stained and showed evidence of leachate seepage, according to the report.
An inspection of the Class 1 portion of the landfill, which accepts commercial and approved industrial waste, also showed erosion or cover defects.
Responding to the findings of the inspections, the district has reported that it seeded and placed hay over parts of the exposed slope, covered parts of the slope with additional soil and will re-seed with grass as necessary.
