Aries Clean Energy hires new chief financial officer

Mark N. Witt has held previous financial management positions with British Petroleum, Goldman Sachs and KPMG.

Mark N. Witt has joined the executive management team at Aries Clean Energy in Nashville, Tennessee, as chief financial officer, bringing more than 35 years of experience in the industry. Aries is a privately-held company focusing on sustainable waste-to-energy (WTE) technologies in the clean-tech marketplace.

Witt has specialized for 10 years in helping formulate financing and growth solutions for multiple companies as founder and president of Commercial Energy Services in Houston. Prior experience includes financial management positions at British Petroleum, Goldman Sachs and KPMG.

“Mark is going to be a valuable guide as we continue to grow and expand our markets and our company,” says Gregory L. Bafalis, Aries CEO. “His track record with startups is very impressive. He has had great success in working with private equity investors and investment bankers in securing capital and structuring expansions.”

Witt says the combination of successful commercial deployment of the company’s gasification technology, coupled with the eight patents in place to protect the innovations, was a major attraction to Aries. “This is truly a superior process with combined financial and sustainability benefits,” Witt says. “As we move into a broader marketplace with additional operating units, I see very few limitations on what we can accomplish.”

A graduate of the University of Texas at Austin, Witt also completed the Investment Management Program at the London Business School and the Executive Program at the University of Virginia. He has served on the board of directors for Green Biologics, K3 Oil & Gas, Mainland Resources, Virginia Gas Co. and BP Federal Credit Union.
