American Gypsum Dedicates Facility

New $150 million plant is located in Georgetown, S.C.

American Gypsum has dedicated its new $150 million facility in Georgetown, S.C., according to a report in the Georgetown Times (Georgetown, S.C.).

The plant has 84 workers and is producing enough wallboard to building approximately 250 houses per day, although according to the report, the facility is not operating at full production because of the current slowdown in the housing market.

“American Gypsum has a new appreciation for ‘Southern hospitality,’” Steven R. Rowley, president and chief executive officer of American Gypsum’s parent company, Eagle Materials Inc., tells the Times. “We are humbled by the magnitude of the efforts from the Georgetown, S.C., community to encourage, welcome and help us construct and start up a modern gypsum wallboard plant.”
