Albuquerque Goes Green

City announces new city buildings larger than 5,000 square feet will adhere to green building practices.

Albuquerque, N.M., Mayor Martin Chavez has announced a new plan for municipal construction—all buildings larger than 5,000 square feet must adhere to U.S. Green Building Council’s (USGBC) Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) standards, according to a report in the Albuquerque Tribune.

Chavez tells the paper that his administration has been discussing implementing the standards since the fall of 2004.
