AEM’s Senior VP Retires

John Smylie retires after 30 years of service to the off-road equipment industry.

John Smylie has retired from the Association of Equipment Manufacturers (AEM) as senior vice president of the international trade group for off-road machinery manufacturers and after 30 years of service to the construction and agricultural equipment sectors.

Smylie joined the AEM in June 1997 as vice president and was named senior vice president in 2001. He oversaw the association’s extensive member statistical reporting programs, which cover more than 200 product lines, and he was the staff liaison for the association’s Ag Equipment Council, which provides strategic and operational direction to the AEM Board of Directors on ag-related services.

In addition, Smylie coordinated the activities of the AEM’s Associate Member Group, a forum where member supplier companies and manufacturers work together to advance business issues of mutual interest. Smylie also oversaw the association’s Customer Support Council activities and for the formation in 2005 of an AEM Purchasing/Supply Chain Management Council.

Smylie joined the AEM after more than 20 years as a senior account executive with BI Performance Services, responsible for developing and maintaining marketing support relationships with Fortune 500 companies in the areas of parts and service-related incentive and training programs and materials.
