Adamo Group Earns Two Demo Contracts

Detroit-based Adamo Group has been awarded contracts for the demolition of the Detroit Medical Center (DMC) guest services tower in Detroit and the former Riverwalk Plaza Hotel in Jackson, Mich.

The demolition of the 90,000-square-foot DMC guest services building in Detroit began in early October. A new parking structure will be built in its place.

Demolition of the Riverwalk Plaza Hotel in Jackson, which is a 9-story, 120,000-square-foot structure, is scheduled to begin by the end of 2012.

In a news release, Adamo Group says it will use a 385CL Ultra High Demolition (UHD) excavator from Caterpillar Inc., Peoria, Ill., on both projects. “The implementation of this machine with a specialized Multi Processor attachment allows 360 degree hydraulic rotation, letting [us] position the attachment for more precise, quick and cost- effective demolition of heavily reinforced multi-story structures,” the Adamo news release states.

A Caterpillar MP30 attachment with a reach of greater than 90 feet will be used for the DMC project, and a Caterpillar MP20 attachment with a reach of more than 140 feet will be used for the Riverwalk project. Adamo Group says it was the first contractor in the United States to use the Caterpillar 385CL as an owner/operator.
