The stacks and boilers at Florida Power & Light's (FPL's) old 1960s-era Port Everglades Power Plant came crashing down on July 16, 2013, to make way for a new plant run on U.S.-based natural gas. An estimated 160,000 tons of concrete and metal from the plant will be recycled and reused. The new Port Everglades Next Generation Clean Energy Center will enter service in 2016.
