The Hamm brand of the Germany-based Wirtgen Group, a John Deere company, has introduced lower-emissions models of its HC 250 C VC mobile rock and rubble compacting and crushing machine.

Hamm says the benefits of the product line, including the new HC 250 C VC (meeting Tier 3 emissions standards) and HC 250i C VC (Tier 4) models, are “plain to see: Processes on the construction site can be streamlined by deploying VC compactors, because these reduce the work and expense needed for material preparation and transport.”

The equipment company says its customers can save time, costs and CO₂ emissions (the latter by up to 50 percent) depending on the application for which the HC 250 C VC is used.

The “VC” in the product name stands for vibration crusher, says Hamm, which also says the device has been designed so contractors are able to crush and compact recyclable concrete, mixed soils, stones such as basalt and granite, and other materials in a single work step.

The 25-ton machines are supplied with heavy-duty tires to work in rocky and uneven terrain, according to Hamm. For operator comfort the seat features an extended backrest, and an air-sprung driver's seat is available as an option.

The HC 250 C VC offers additional versatility in the form of tool holder system designed to provide what Hamm calls quick and simple changes with no need for customized tools.

“This is compatible with round-shank cutting tools for stone, as well as wear-resistant heavy-duty cutting tools with carbide tips and hard facing for abrasive stone or hard stone,” states Hamm.
