Sun Recycling opens new Florida location

New facility in West Palm Beach is dedicated to concrete and aggregate recycling.

The Sun Recycling subsidiary of Southern Waste Systems (SWS) opened its newest recycling facility in South Florida Oct. 22, 2014. SWS says Sun Recycling is the largest recycler of construction and demolition (C&D) material in the state of Florida.

The new 10-acre site on Wallis Road in West Palm Beach, Florida, adds an additional 10 employees to SWS’ current roster of 709 employees. The new facility is dedicated to the recycling of concrete aggregate and is designed to complement a nearby location dedicated to recycling mixed C&D material and yard waste. The company has two other facilities in the county in West Palm Beach and Lantana.

The new facility includes a 1400 Max crusher made by Eagle Crusher Co. Inc., Galion, Ohio, matched up to an Eagle 6-foot by 20-foot triple deck screen. According to SWS, the crusher has the capacity to generate up to four different size products at the same time and can process up to 250 tons per hour depending on the material.

“The state of Florida goal of 75 percent recycling has played a vital role in bringing awareness to the importance of recycling,” says Charles Gusmano, president and CEO of SWS. “The investment in this facility is testament to our ongoing commitment to the environment, but the real need for the facility is the result of the economy moving in the right direction and citizens who are committed to doing the right thing by recycling.”

CEO of the Central Palm Beach County Chamber of Commerce Wayne Burns says, “Green jobs are good jobs and we are proud to have SWS as a member of the Chamber. Congratulations SWS on your new facility.”

SWS describes itself as a full-service waste and recycling company with more than 50 years’ experience in the solid waste collection, disposal and recycling business. Sun Recycling operates C&D material recycling facilities in several Florida locations and a municipal solid waste recycling facility in Davie, Florida. Sun says it recycles up to 90 percent of the construction and demolition debris that it collects.
