Fuchs announces upgrades to its material handlers

Company’s MHL340 F2 and MHL350 F2 material handlers have been upgraded to offer better performance for operators.

Fuchs, a Terex brand based in Louisville, Kentucky, announces that its MHL340 F2 and MHL350 F2 material handlers have been upgraded to offer better performance for operators working in the scrap, recycling, waste, port and logging industries.

The MHL340 F2

The MHL340 handler features a heavier counterweight to provide better lifting stability, even when lifting at extended reaches. Its increased operating weight of up to 67,460 lbs. and 14-foot, 3-inch outrigger base, combined with fine-tuned hydraulics, deliver improved lifting performance and high productivity. Contrary to a modified excavator’s offset slew ring design, the Fuchs purpose-built handler offers the same high-lifting capacities throughout its 360-degree rotation thanks to its heavy-duty double-row slewing ring located in the center of the machine.

The Fuchs MHL340 material handler can be equipped with a variety of boom/stick options, ranging from 36-foot, 1-inch to 44-foot 11-inches, increasing the machine’s flexibility. Its 40-foot-long universal stick configuration includes a hydraulic cylinder mounted to the top of the boom to improve the machine’s sorting capabilities. When equipped with the longer boom/stick configurations, the MHL340 can easily load trailers from the rear versus the side, a huge advantage for operating in tight yards where space is limited. When operating inside, the machine’s standard close proximity range limiter helps to avoid the stick from hitting the structure.

The available Fuchs Quick Connect (FQC) system adds a hydraulic quick coupler to the end of the purpose-built stick to accommodate a wide variety of stick attachments, further improving machine flexibility. FQC allows the operator to conveniently connect/disconnect all hydraulic lines of the grapple and electrical connections of the magnet from inside the cab to expand the MHL340 handler’s applications to cutting steel, loading or sorting parts and cleaning the job site. The MHL340 comes standard with a 17-kW generator and controls for magnet operation.

The MHL350 F2

According to the company, the MHL350 F2 material handler now boasts a powerful dual-circuit hydraulic system to better handle heavy loads. Delivering precise machine control in high-production applications, the MHL350 is one of the fastest, most sensitive and most fuel-efficient material handlers in the scrap industry, Fuchs says.

With its wide 15-foot, 9-inch outrigger base, the MHL350 delivers stable lifting performance, and its double-row centrally positioned slewing ring delivers high lifting capacities throughout its 360-degree rotation. The combination of power and high-lifting performance makes this purpose-built handler, offering operating weights up to 78,264-lbs, the perfect all-around machine for primary scrap processing and scrap feeder yards, the company says.

Built with a modular design for easy removal for transport, a new galvanized steel catwalk with long floor affords convenient, safe access to the new cab. A sliding door design offers quick and unobstructed entry for operators. The MHL350 features a variable hydraulic height-adjustable cab with maximum eye-level operation up to 18-feet, 4-inches above ground level. The machine’s re-engineered lifting system boasts enhanced torsional stiffness and built-in cushioning for improved longevity. Repositioning the lifting cylinder away from the upper machine carriage offers improved access to the hydraulic valves.

The machine’s new cab also offers ease of use, comfort and visibility. Its joystick steering conveniently locates both machine steering and grab rotation on a single joystick for more precise machine control, increased legroom and improved visibility. In addition to the rearview camera, a fully integrated and protected standard side-view camera, with optional 360-degree viewing available, improves visibility to the operating area. A large 7-inch multifunction touchscreen display delivers easy and intuitive operation, while a separate screen displays the camera video. Both cameras feature infrared technology for enhanced visibility during nighttime operation.

To reduce the number of times material is handled, the new MHL350 handler features 49-foot, 2-inch and 52-foot, 5-inch work ranges when equipped with standard dipper sticks. An optional universal stick provides a 48-foot, 2-inch reach and incorporates a stick-mounted hydraulic cylinder for improved sorting capabilities. The available Fuchs Quick Connect (FQC) system adds a hydraulic quick coupler to the end of the purpose-built stick to accommodate a wide variety of stick attachments, improving machine flexibility. FQC allows the operator to connect/disconnect all hydraulic lines of the grapple and electrical connections of the magnet from inside the cab to expand the MHL350 handler’s applications to cutting steel, loading or sorting parts and cleaning the job site.
