Netherlands-based Desso, a leading global carpet and sports pitches company, has appointed Robert-Jan van Ogtrop, founder of Circle Economy to its supervisory board. 'Circle Economy' is a nonprofit open platform that aims to accelerate the transition to the circular economy.
Before creating 'Circle Economy' in 2009, van Ogtrop was the CEO of Bols Royal Distilleries and Remy Cointreau.
"We are delighted to have Robert-Jan join our board," says Alexander Collot d'Escury, CEO of Desso. "He brings with him not only valuable international business experience but also a deep understanding and passion for the circular economy. His knowledge will strengthen our ability to lead our business in this direction, based on our innovation pillars of Creativity, Functionality and Cradle to Cradle."
In 2008, Desso began designing and manufacturing its products according to Cradle to Cradle principles: designed for eventual recycling in a nontoxic closed loop. It is based on a combined commitment to using healthy materials, developing take back and recycling capabilities, renewable energy usage, water stewardship and social fairness.
"I am thrilled to be part of Desso's leadership," says Robert-Jan van Ogtrop. "I established the 'Circle Economy' because I was convinced we needed to make a major shift in world business toward the circular economy. Desso is committed to the same agenda and is redesigning the way it does things accordingly. I am delighted to be part of this important venture."
