Spring Meetings Draw Contractors, Recyclers
The National Demolition Association has reported that its 2010 annual convention, held March 20-23 in Las Vegas, drew close to 1,100 attendees. In a news release, the association says it was encouraged by the attendance figure in light of the challenges posed by the slowdown in the construction industry.
One week after the demolition industry convention, the Construction Materials Recycling Association (CMRA) hosted its annual meeting as part of the C&D World Exhibition & Conference at The Rio Casino Resort in Las Vegas March 28-30, 2010.
“We were very pleased at the turnout,” says Michael Taylor, the National Demolition Association executive director. “We know it’s a tough time for our industry, which makes the solid turnout all the more remarkable.”
At the 2010 convention, National Demolition Association president Ray Passeno, who also is a vice president with Bierlein Companies Inc., Midland, Mich., provided an overview of the association’s activities and upcoming plans. He noted that the National Demolition Association board and executive committee remained involved in a strategic planning process designed “to take us five to 10 years into the future.”
The CMRA’s annual meeting and C&D World Exhibition & Conference featured a keynote speech from Anthony Lomangino, who reflected on his journey from a trash hauler to an entrepreneur who uses sophisticated sorting and processing technology to recycle C&D materials.
In his remarks, Lomangino urged attendees to be involved with and support organizations such as the CMRA.
