Remedial Construction Services L.P. (RECON), Houston, has announced the establishment of a new strategic business unit – Decommissioning & Demolition (D&D). The D&D unit expands RECON’s existing position as the preferred supplier of technology-based environmental and geotechnical construction services. With the creation of the Decommissioning & Demolition division, RECON welcomes Joe Vendetti, business unit leader; Tony Burkhart, project director; and Felix Spittler, PE, senior project engineer.

Joseph Vendetti joins RECON as the business unit leader for D&D with over 31 years of experience in D&D and is widely recognized as a subject matter expert in the field. With a full knowledge of construction and demolition techniques, the company says Vendetti’s experience in the heavy industrial market will effectively build strategic relationships within the power and industrial sectors.

Tony Burkhart is well versed in the management, execution and coordination of complex facility closures with over 1,000 completed projects under his belt. Burkhart’s relationships and D&D knowledge will prove invaluable in driving market growth for RECON, says the company.

Felix Spittler, PE, also joins RECON as project engineer for the newly established D&D business unit. Spittler, is registered as a professional engineer in 10 states and has more than 26 years of experience in project and construction management for the environmental remediation and construction industries.

This new business expansion will provide a highly complementary addition to RECON’s very successful coal combustion residual (CCR) marketplace offering, by providing a complete turnkey service to our utility customers, according to the company.

RECON provides custom solutions to clients in the energy/power, oil and gas, mining, waste management and chemical industries. Its value-added services include stabilization and solidification, ash containment, decommissioning and demolition, groundwater containment, cap and cell construction, seismic stability, dewatering, surface impoundment water treatment, soil mixing and deep soil mixing.
