Veolia Environmental Services has proposed the construction of a 72-acre landfill expansion at its existing landfill in Monticello Township, Minn. The expansion would be used for residential and commercial waste, as well as construction and demolition debris.

As part of the environmental review process for the project, the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA) has prepared a Scoping Environmental Assessment Worksheet (SEAW) and a draft Environmental Impact Statement Scoping Decision Document for the project. The purpose of the documents is to identify which environmental issues will need to be addressed in a more detailed environmental review.

The MPCA says the documents are open for public comment through July 25. The MPCA has scheduled a public meeting for July 9, 2012 at Rockford Township Hall, 3039 Dague Ave. SE in Buffalo, Minn. An open house begins at 6:30 p.m., with a formal presentation at 7:00 p.m.

Comments on the SEAW must be submitted in writing the MPCA by 4:30 p.m. on July 25 to Nancy Drach, MPCA, 520 Lafayette Road, St. Paul, MN 55151-4194, by email to nancy.drach@state.mn.us, or by fax to (651) 297-8683.

To request a copy of the SEAW or draft EIS Scoping Decision Document or inquire about the environmental review process, contact Drach at 651-757-2317. The documents are also posted online at http://www.pca.state.mn.us/oxpg691.
