EvoQuip, Dungannon, Ireland, has launched the Cobra 290R crusher at the recent Hillhead Exhibition in the U.K. The Cobra 290R compact impact crusher builds on the features of the Cobra 230 and is designed to provide a solution for on-site recycling in urban areas.

The Cobra 290 features ground level set up and two-button start up sequence and can operate in several applications, including reinforced concrete, recycled asphalt, construction and demolition debris, coal and natural rock. With throughput potential of up 320 tons per hour, depending on feed material and apron setting, the Cobra 290 uses a 315 horsepower Volvo engine to power the direct drive system.

At the heart of the Cobra 290 is the CR055 impact crusher from EvoQuip parent company Terex, Westport, Connecticut, with a rotor size of 40 inches by 41.5 inches. This impactor has been developed using components and technology from some of the company’s larger impactors in the Terex range.

Fitted as standard is a hinged inlet lid manufactured to reduce the risk of material bridging at the feed in point. Like the Cobra 230 crusher, the Cobra 290 also has two independent hydraulic controlled aprons designed to optimize the material throughput and reduction. The patented hydraulic overload protection system is designed to not only protect the crusher in the event of an uncrushable piece entering the chamber, but also minimize apron bounce and reduces the amount of oversize material passing.

The tip speed of the rotor can be varied depending on the application and product requirements. Throughout the crushing process, the Cobra 290 constantly monitors the engine load and automatically regulates the feeder speed as required.

Below the impact crusher the customer can choose between the full-length conveyor design and the vibrating underpan feeder.

The Cobra 290 features a hinged radiator pack, hinged diesel tank and product conveyor that can be removed quickly for major maintenance. In addition, the operator can move the machine using the remote control from the excavator cab without shutting down the crusher.

There is an option for a single deck after screen system. This incorporates a 9-foot by 5-foot screen that provides the customer with a sized end product. The ability to quickly detach the complete after screen system, including the oversize conveyor, provides the customer the option or running the machine in standard mode or to transport it separately. It is possible to purchase and retrofit this option later.
